A member of Toronto City Council’s Executive Committee is calling for Mayor Rob Ford to take a leave of absence.
There are calls among other councillors for Ford to quit. But Jaye Robinson says the mayor will never leave voluntarily. But she would like to recommend he take a leave of absence to deal with the issue. She says there are plenty of great leader of all political strikes at city hall.
Robinson says she has asked for a meeting with the mayor to present her case, but the mayor’s office hasn’t responded.
There are also calls for Queen’s Park to intervene. Premier Kathleen Wynne says she is monitoring the ongoing controversy at City Hall and will step in if necessary. That prompted Councillor Doug Ford to challenge Wynne to “get her own house in order”.
It’s no secret that Doug Ford wants to run for the Conservatives in a provincial election. But the Tories seem to be distancing themselves from Ford. House leader Jim Wilson says Doug Ford is “not our candidate.”
