It’s a plan that promises major benefits for travellers, but brings dire warnings from opponents.
Toronto City Council is going to decide today whether to call for a staff report on Porter Airline’s proposal to start flying Bombardier’s so-called “whisper” jets into the Island Airport.
Councillor Adam Vaughn says the Porter plan would be very bad for Toronto`s waterfront.
Councillor Michael Thompson chairs the city’s Economic Development committee. He says there are so many claims from both sides of the debate that he and his colleagues need the staff report to sort them out.
Another contentious issue is coming up today. Some councillors want to debate funding methods for transit. Mayor Ford and his Executive narrowly blocked debate on a staff report. It will take a two-thirds majority of councillors to add the measure to today’s agenda.
