It seems Toronto’s Mayor has implemented a rarely used power to move the issue of a downtown casino from the agenda of next week’s council meeting.  Councillor Michael Thompson says that’s what he and other Rob Ford allies have been told by the mayor’s office.  The buzz is that Ford doesn’t have enough support on council to endorse a downtown casino.  Thompson says he would consider voting in favour of a casino only if Toronto receives a fee of $100-million or more per year for hosting it.  Councillors who are not in favour of a casino say Ford is delaying the inevitable.  Adam Vaughan says, “the people of Toronto have made their minds up, and most councillors have made their minds up.’  He says its really only stage managing at this point.  Vaughan says, “Ford is going to lose another big one at council, and if its delayed a week, its delayed a week.”  The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation says its review of the hosting fee formula is complete.  It will likely be made public next week at the earliest.  OLG says if Toronto turns down the opportunity for a casino, it will go to either Mississauga, Markham or Vaughan.
