A great vote of confidence for young area musicians.
” Sistema Toronto ” has been awarded a $30,000 grant from the Toronto Community Foundation.
The funding will strengthen the “Playing to Potential” program and deepen its roots in the community – while expanding throughout Toronto and the GTA.
The program is a collaboration between “Sistema Toronto” and the Toronto District School Board – offered at no charge in the culturally diverse Parkdale community.
Students receive intensive after-school instruction from teachers and professional artists for two hours at the end of every school day.
After three years each child will have received over one thousand hours of musical instruction, practice, and performance.
“Playing to Potential” is modelled after the internationally acclaimed “El Sistema” program, which has been teaching music to over a million youth in Venezuela for more than 35 years.
