Police moved in to clear out anti-poverty protesters who set up a makeshift homeless shelter outside Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s office.

More than 50 demonstrators from the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty brought sleeping bags and blankets to City Hall yesterday afternoon to protest a lack of space in Toronto homeless shelters.

When they refused to leave last night police officers started removing the protesters one at a time.

They had threatened to stay put until the city dealt with the homeless shelter issue, but they didn’t resist police and no arrests were made, or charges laid.

OCAP’s John Clarke warned that they’d be back.

He said Mayor Ford must respond to help the homeless.

Ford has said that Toronto has plenty of shelter beds.
