South African Olympian Oscar Pistorius openly cried in a Pretoria courtroom this morning as he was formally charged with murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend.  The double amputee sprinter was told by prosecutors they will pursue a charge of premeditated murder.  Pistorius has denied murdering his model girlfriend.  A statement has been issued by his family and management saying “the alleged murder is disputed in the strongest terms.”  It also says that Pistorius “would like to send his deepest sympathies to the family of Reeva.”

29 year old Reeva Steencamp was found fatally shot in the upscale home of Oscar Pistorius early yesterday.  The judge ordered him to remain in custody pending a bail hearing next Tuesday.

Prior to his court appearance, the Olympic double amputee superstar was earlier seen leaving a police station in a dark suit with a charcoal grey jacket covering his head as he got into a police vehicle. Oscar Pistorius has been considered a national hero in South Africa.
