Ontario’s new cabinet ministers are quickly coming to terms with their portfolios as Premier Kathleen Wynne prepares for the legislature to convene next week.

Rookie Education Minister Liz Sandals says her priority will be to get teachers to start supervising extra-curricular activities again. There have been no sports teams or drama and music clubs since the fall as teachers continue to protest against contracts imposed on them by the province.

Former transportation minister Bob Chiarelli will have to pick up the thorny issue of the cancelled gas plants in Mississauga and Oakville as he takes over the Energy portfolio. Chiarelli said he hopes the auditor general’s investigation of the gas plants provides the opposition parties with the answers they’re looking for.

New Finance Minister Charles Sousa will be busy preparing a budget that he says will tackle the provincial deficit while protecting social programs.

And Glenn Murray tweeted this morning that he was preparing to hop onto the King streetcar on his first full day as the province’s  Transportation and Infrastructure Minister.
