Ontario’s finance minister is leaving Queen’s Park.

Dwight Duncan has announced on twitter that he will resign as the MPP for Windsor-Tecumseh effective February 14th.

Duncan has called a news conference for today to make the official announcement.

Duncan supported Sandra Pupatello in the recent leadership race. He had made it clear that he intended to resign his seat soon.

He says he doesn’t want to stay in cabinet because premier-designate Kathleen Wynne needs a new team to lead the government.

That means the Liberals minority government will be another seat shy of a majority. Wynne will have to call a byelection to fill Duncan’s seat in Windsor.
