Some experts are questioning Ana Bailao’s admission that “one drink is too many” .  The Toronto City Councillor tearfully confessed to reporters yesterday that she had pleaded guilty to the charge of exceeding the legal limit while driving.  “I do not, and have never, condoned drinking and driving.  And this situation has made me intimately aware of the dangers this behaviour can cause.”

Bailao acknowledged her blood alcohol level was 0.13 grams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood – more than 60 percent above the legal limit of 0.08.  Mothers Against Drunk Driving Chief Executive Andrew Murie says a woman of Bailao’s size would have to drink a lot of alcohol to register 0.13. “It’s reasonable to say after a four hour period, somebody her size had 8 to 10 standard drinks.”

Ana Bailao has received the support of Mayor Rob Ford, who says she’s taken full responsibility for her actions.  The Ward 18 Davenport Councillor was arrested early on the morning of October 16th after attending the Mayor’s Ball for the Arts earlier that night. She reportedly then went to the Thompson Hotel where she socialized until leaving for home.
