One of the front-runners to succeed Premier Dalton McGuinty as Ontario Liberal leader -is a big booster of the music industry.
Sandra Pupatello says the next premier of Ontario should be more in tune with the music industry to create jobs and spark economic activity in the Greater Toronto Area.
Pupatello was speaking to the Economic Club of Canada in Toronto today.
She says music, entertainment and digital businesses already provide a $20-billion a year boost to the GTA but we can do more to bring “music tourism” to Toronto to change the face of the city much like music has benefitted Austin, Nashville and New Orleans.
Tax credits have helped the movie and television production industry in the GTA and Pupatello cited the Toronto International Film Festival as an example of governments working with cultural industries.
