The Indian musician who brought the sound of the sitar to the west has died.

Ravi Shankar collaborated with everyone from Yehudi Menuhin to the Beatles.

Beatle George Harrison became fascinated with the sitar and developed a close friendship with Shankar. Together they  pioneered the concept of the rock benefit concert with the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh.

Shankar played at both the Woodstock and Monterey festivals.

He also collaborated with violinist Yehudi Menuhin on three “West Meets East” albums.

Shankar is the father of singer Norah Jones.

Ravi Shankar was 92.
