The Duchess of Cambridge is expected to remain in hospital for several days.

The wife of Prince William is expecting the couple’s first child, but Kate is suffering from a severe case of morning sickness. Because it’s early in the pregnancy, doctors want to keep her under observation for several days. She will then require rest afterwards.

The couple made the announcement early because they were aware her hospitalization would set off a frenzy of speculation. They made the public announcement soon after informing the Queen.

Prince Harry, who is serving in Afghanistan, learned by e-mail that he’s about to become an uncle.

Regardless of whether it’s a boy or a girl, the child will one day become monarch. The UK and the Commonwealth, including Canada, recently changed the laws of succession to remove the clause stipulating that a male child would always be ahead of an older sister in the line of succession.
