New Democrat M-P’s say they’re pleased the company behind a proposed mega quarry north of Toronto near Shelburne, has withdrawn its application.
The M-P’s say they helped Melancthon Township residents fight the quarry project, arguing it would have destroyed prime farmland and put drinking water at risk.
Highland Companies originally disputed those claims, but on Wednesday, pulled its application because of a lack of community and government support.
Efforts to stop the Mega Quarry have been strongly supported by the new AM740’s Goldhawk Fights Back.
Celebrity Chef, Michael Stadtländer was among the many people who helped organize protests. He told Dale Goldhawk, he’d like to reach out to Highland in an effort to support local farmers.
The company says it will now concentrate on farming the land at the site where the mega quarry was originally planned.
