Southern Ontario is preparing for the onslaught of Hurricane Sandy.
The storm is melding with two other weather systems to produce what forecasters are calling a “super-storm”. Some call it a “Frankenstorm” because of Hallowe’en.
A wind warning is in effect for the City of Toronto. Winds are expected to gust upwards of 90 kilometres an hour tonight. Twenty-five millimetres of rain are possible.
City authorities are advising homeowners to direct downspouts away from foundations to prevent basement flooding; secure outdoor items such as lawn furniture and garbage bins; and make sure catch basins on residential streets are kept free of leaves to prevent flooding.
Winds will be high enough that falling branches could take down power lines and cause power failures.
