A prominent Vancouver doctor is taking part in an international ad campaign that’s calling on world leaders to end AIDS by ending the war on drugs. Medical specialists and government leaders are meeting at an international AIDS conference in Washington, D-C. Doctor Evan Wood says that while infection rates are dropping around the globe, the epidemic is growing in many countries because of aggressive law-enforcement activities in the war on drugs.  He says, “so where the drug war is being most aggressivly fought, we know that HIV is spread in those environments.  We also know that the mass incarceration of drug users also contributes to the spread of HIV.”  Wood says more than 23,400 people have signed the Vienna Declaration, which asks governments to write drug policies based on evidence that works.
