It’s another good reason to enjoy your morning coffee!  U.S. researchers have found women who drink more than three cups of coffee daily are more than 20 percent less likely to develop the most common form of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma, compared with women who drink less than one cup of caffeinated coffee per month.  For men, the risk reduction is 10 percent.  Lead author Jiali Han, an associate professor at Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health in Boston,  says most likely, the protective effect is due to caffeine.  People in the study who drank decaffeinated coffee did not appear to have a lower risk of developing skin cancer.  Basal cell carcinoma accounts for about 80 percent of all skin cancer cases.
