Not only is the town of Elliot Lake dealing with the emotional trauma of losing two of its citizens in the collapse of the local mall, it is also dealing with the financial impact.
The local economy is expected to suffer because the collapse wiped out several retail shops, one of two grocery stores, one of two hotels and a host of other businesses and government service offices.
Officials don’t have a dollar figure yet, but say it will be significant.
About 250 people are out of work because of the mall’s destruction.
There is also a great deal of anger directed at the owner of the mall, and a call for a formal inquiry.
