Carolyn Parrish is Mississauga’s next mayor.

The former long time Mississauga city councillor and MP won Monday’s mayoral byelection, beating out a crowded field of contenders to succeed Bonnie Crombie.

Parrish garnered just under 43,500 votes, more than 8500 votes over her closest competitor, first-term City Councillor Alvin Tedjo.

She told reporters she looks forward to bringing together her competitors together on council.

“Oh I’m sure that’s going to fall into place very shortly. Nobody wants to be the lone wolf, and I for sure, would like all the help I can get, so I will be pulling everybody together,” Parrish told reporters, “Everybody that was elected was elected to serve the people. They’re all going to just have to walk away from whatever happened and start working for the people.”

Third and fourth place when to City Councillors Dipika Damerla and Stephen Dasko, respectively.

According to unofficial results, 138,500 Mississauga residents turned out to vote in the byelection. That number represents just under 26-percent of eligible voters.

Carolyn Parrish has received wishes of congratulations on the social media site, X, from both Ontario Premier Doug Ford.

Former mayor and now Ontario Liberal leader Bonnie Crombie did not endorse a candidate for her successor, but did join Parrish to celebrate her victory.

“You will be a formidible mayor, and I know you will be a very strong voice and a very strong leader for Mississauga,” Crombie said.

Crombie also visited the Alvin Tedjo camp to congratulate him on a well run campaign.
