Security failed on Tuesday night to stop an anti-Israel protest march into King’s College Circle where an encampment has been set up since Thursday May 2nd.

There were no issues but Toronto Police say there were some officers in the area monitoring the situation at the request of U of T decision makers.

Toronto police estimate that 3,000 people took part in the demonstration against Israeli military actions in Gaza.

The “Hands off Rafah!” protest, which began at 6 p.m. outside the Israeli consulate at Yonge and Bloor streets, and made its way to the University of Toronto campus. By about 9 p.m., the group reached the encampment set up by U of T students.

How do Canadians feel about these encampments set up to oppose funding of Israel?

A new Leger survey suggests nearly half of Canadians, 48-percent, oppose the anti-Israel encampments on university campuses and the same percentage say they should be taken down.

44-percent agree the protests may be a threat to student and campus safety.

Just 31 per cent of respondents say they support the protests, including the one at the University of Toronto.

The poll also indicates younger respondents are more likely to support the encampments.
