It is a real life example of power to the people.

Emily Johnson is the creator of a subreddit called Loblaws Is Out of Control for people to vent about Loblaw grocery prices.

And now that the group is calling for a boycott of Loblaw stores for the month of May, Johnson told The Morning Zoom with Sam and Jane, they’ve gotten the attention of some big players at the grocery giant.

“So we heard from Dave Bower, the head of PR, last week and he and I have been working to try and set up a meeting with Per Bank, the Loblaws’ CEO this week,” Johnson explained, “They’ve positioned that they are very interested in listening to our concerns and it’s my hope as someone acting in good faith and someone trying to represent our community well that we can better grocery prices for all Canadians.”

And what does Johnson think about the operatic send up to support the Loblaw boycott?

“Oh my goodness, I love it,” Johnson told The Morning Zoom with Sam and Jane, “My team was pinging me non-stop yesterday. They’re like, you have to watch this. It’s so funny, I was having a chat with my aunt. She’s a huge Les Miz fan and she said, wouldn’t it be great if someone did a cover of a Les Miz song in the context of this boycott?”
