Ukrainian officials say Russian drones struck the Black Sea city of Mykolaiv, engulfing a hotel in flames and damaging energy infrastructure, as ammunition shortages continue to hamper Kyiv’s troops in the more than 2-year-old war.
The governor of Ukraine’s southern Mykolaiv province reported that there were no casualties in Sunday’s attack.
Russian state agency RIA reported claims that the strike on Mykolaiv targeted a shipyard where naval drones were being assembled, as well as a hotel housing what were described as “English-speaking mercenaries” who have fought for Kyiv.
Those claims could not be independently verified.
According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, 17 Ukrainian drones were downed overnight across four regions in the country’s southwest.
