The U.S. House has approved a $95 billion package of foreign aid for Ukraine, Israel and other U.S. allies following months of turbulence on Capitol Hill.
Congressional leaders staved off opposition from hard-right conservatives to push the bill through in a rare Saturday session.
The House approved $61 billion in aid for Ukraine as Democrats and Republicans joined together after months of hard-right push-back over renewed American support for thwarting Russia’s invasion.
The full package will now go to the Senate, which could pass it as early as Tuesday.
The four bills, including aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Indo-Pacific allies, as well as a measure dealing with the social media app TikTok were all overwhelmingly approved, and President Joe Biden has promised to sign the package.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who had warned that his country would lose the war without U.S. funding, praised American lawmakers for their decision.
