Six men from the GTA; including one picked up in Philadelphia, have been arrested and charged in the theft of nearly $23-million in gold and cash from Pearson International Airport last April 17.
Of those, one is an Air Canada employee from Brampton and another is a Toronto jewelry store owner.
The man in custody in the U.S., is a 25-year-old from Brampton, accused of trying to bring 65 illegal handguns across the border.
Canada-wide warrants have been issued for three more men, including a former Air Canada employee; who worked for the airline at the time.
Police say the pair who worked for the airline were key to pulling off the daring robbery.
The largest gold heist in Canadian history is a ”sensational one, and one which probably, we jokingly say, belongs in a Netflix series,” said Peel Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah.
