Now that a legal roadblock’s out of the way, the Ford and Trudeau governments have an agreement that will permit Ontario to start working on building its signature Highway 413 along the western edge of the GTA.

On hold since 2021, following concerns by area residents, environmental groups and others; particularly centring on the impact on farmland and the habitats of species (such as the Western chorus frog and red-headed woodpeckers), the two levels of government agree to establish a joint working group to recommend appropriate measures to minimize impacts.

It’s a big win for the Ford government which made the project the cornerstone pledge of the Conservatives 2022 re-election campaign.

Highway 413 is set to connect the 401 in Milton to the 400 in Vaughan.
