It was a joyful and tearful reunion with his daughters Thursday when a missing elder with dementia was found safe in Leslieville, two days after he disappeared after going for a walk.

According to Toronto Police, 76 year old Norman Gray, who goes by Bill, was spotted by a crossing guard at Carlaw and Eastern Avenues.

People across Toronto had been hoping for this type of outcome and daughter Kim was relieved and grateful that her dad was located.

“Oh my gosh, I just don’t have words. There’s no words that can explain, I love my father so much,” Kimberly Gray explained, “I’m just so grateful for all of the help that we received, all the tips, Toronto Police, we’re just so grateful. I was so hopeful that we would find my dad. I couldn’t go another 24 hours without locating him.”

Bill was assessed by emergency medical services, and other than being tired, he is said to be doing ok.

As for the crossing guard, Toronto Police Inspector Jeff Bangild says the individual will be recognized for their actions, which included flagging down a passing police cruiser after recognizing the missing man from media reports.
