The latest stop on his pre-budget tour brought Justin Trudeau to Halifax where the prime minister revealed the April 16 budget will contain a pledge of $6-billion for a new Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund.
Much of it will only be accessible if provinces and territories agree to certain conditions.

They would have to agree to conditions, including adoption of the recently announced renters’ bill of rights, freezing development charges for three-years and allowing more ”missing middle” homes, including duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, and townhouses.
The deadline to secure a deal for provinces will be January 1, 2025 and April 1 of next year for territories.
If a province or territory doesn’t reach a deal by the deadlines, their funding will go to the municipal stream of the infrastructure fund.
