In an effort to help renters eventually own a home, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced three proposals that’ll be in next month’s budget.

”It’s too hard to find an affordable place to rent, especially for younger Canadians,” according to Trudeau.
”That’s why in Budget 2024, we’re taking action to protect renters, make the rental market fairer, and open new pathways for renters to become homeowners.”
First, the Liberals are proposing a new Canadian Renters’ Bill of Rights, that would require landlords reveal the rental price history of properties to prospective tenants.
Secondly, Trudeau would like the Canadian Mortgage Charter amended to give reliable renters credit when they decide they want to buy a home.
Thirdly, the prime minister proposes $15-million in new funding go toward provincial legal aid groups to better protect tenants against unfair rent hikes, reno-victions or ”bad landlords.”
Housing’s expected to be a major focus of the budget that will be unveiled April 16.
