After more than 40-years, McMaster University in Hamilton has scrapped its music degree program.

According to Paul Rapoport, who taught at Mac from 1977 to 2005. and chaired the music department in the mid 90s, the university administration underfunded music program for 40 years and closed its Masters Program in 2006.

Now it appears the bachelor degree has also been abolished.

A statement from the university says effective immediately, the Music I program will be suspending admissions for the September 2024 intake as the program undergoes a redesign.

The statement goes on to say, “prospective applicants with an interest in pursuing a degree in Music are encouraged to apply to Humanities I.

No auditions required.
