He’s 92, a multiple Oscar winner and the composer and director of some of the most memorable music of our lives.
John Williams is among 19 new members of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
The academy is the honorary society for musicians, authors, artists and architects that was founded in 1898. Members over time have ranged from Mark Twain to Toni Morrison to Leonard Bernstein.
Williams’ long career has also featured conducting the Boston Pops for more than a decade, composing symphonies and chamber music and writing concertos for bassoon, flute and violin and trumpet.
