Documents related to the high-profile firing of two researchers from the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg show there was an ”unacceptable” security situation there.

”The threat environment with respect to foreign interference was in a very different place at that moment” in 2019, Health Minister Mark Holland points out.

”While there were the proper protocols in place, there was a lax adherence to the security protocols.”

Opposition parties hoped the more than 600-pages would reveal why scientists Xiangguo Qiu and her husband, Keding Cheng, were escorted from the lab in July 2019 before being fired in January 2021.

They had also wanted to see documents related to the transfer of deadly Ebola and Henipah virsuses to China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology in March 2019.

Qiu oversaw the transfer.

The documents were made public after a special all-party committee reviewed them.
