In a joint effort, the OPP and Homeland Security Investigation’s Buffalo office have disrupted a firearm smuggling pipeline from the south of the border, specifically Florida.
A total of 274 illegal firearms seized resulting in what’s believed to be the biggest bust of handguns and assault rifles in Ontario history.
Of the 106 guns recovered in this province, investigators were amazed at the speed with which they were sold.
”Our investigation revealed that the firearm suppliers would obtain lists of available firearms for sale. Within days, or even sometimes hours, all of the illegal firearms would be sold,” says OPP Detective Inspector Lee Fulford.
Authorities have charged 16 suspects in the province with close to 280 charges.
