Olivia Chow’s approval rating has taken a hit following the release of her 2024 City of Toronto budget which goes to city council on Wednesday.

According to a new Liaison Strategies poll, the approval rating for Toronto’s mayor has dipped to 55 percent, down from a high of 75 percent not long after she was elected.

“The Olivia Chow honeymoon is over,” David Valentin, the principal at Liaison Strategies, said in a written statement.

According to the survey, only about 47-percent of Toronto residents approve of the proposed budget which includes a 9.5 percent property tax increase.

But Chow receives high marks when it comes to Toronto’s relationship with other levels of government at 65 percent, as well as her movement on affordable housing at 64 percent. When it comes to crime, Valentin says 48 percent of respondents say they approve of the work she is doing.

Affordable housing is identified as the top issue facing the city by about 36 percent of respondents and about 21 percent of those polled rank transit as the top issue.
