The federal government began accepting applications in January to reunite as many as 1,000 people in Gaza, who have extended family in Canada.
Ottawa provided an initial list of pre-approved people to Israel and Egypt, which jointly control the only border crossing out of the territory.
A month later and families are still waiting.
Immigration Minister Marc Miller’s running out of patience.
”Local authorities need to help us get people through the Rafah border crossing. Canada does not control that. And I’m pretty pissed off about it,” Miller adds.
The minister has previously said he’s willing to be flexible on the number who can access the program, but feels that’s ”very difficult” if no one’s getting across the border.
Even if they do, they still need to be screened before they’re allowed to board a flight home.
