Doug Ford showed up at Western Hospital, not to be admitted but to announce his government’s investing $794-million toward the University Health Network’s 15-storey patient tower that’ll be located there.

The premier says it will ”help provide modern and high-quality care to the more than 450,000 people who visit Toronto Western Hospital each year.”

Once completed in 2028, Ford says the tower will add 82 patients beds; including new critical care beds and 20 operating rooms; including three new image-guided operating rooms for complex neurosurgical and spinal procedures as well as new single patients rooms designed to enhance the hospital’s infection control abilities to easily respond to any future public health outbreaks.

UHN says the tower will increase surgical capacity by 20%.
