The ”Do Not Drive” warning from Toyota Canada is a repeat of an existing recall for Takata airbags at risk of exploding and hurling shrapnel.
”If the airbag deploys, a part inside is more likely to explode and shoot sharp metal fragments, which could cause serious injury or death to the driver or passengers,” reads a statement from Toyota.
The approximately 7,300 affected vehicles include the 2003 and ’04 Corolla and Corolla Matrix models as well as 2004 and ’05 RAV4s.
The automaker hopes this reaches those who did not respond to the initial recall in 2013, later expanded in 2015.
Owners can check Toyota’s recall website to see if they’re impacted, and contact a dealer to have their cars fixed at no cost.
