The 17-judge panel from the International Court of Justice in The Hague will rule by week’s end if it will grant emergency measures against Israel after South Africa’s accusations that the Israeli military offensive in Gaza is a state-led ”genocide.”

However, the justices will not have a decision at that time on the allegations.

Those proceedings could take years.

Israel has strongly dismissed the allegations as baseless and said South Africa was acting on behalf of Hamas.

Israel says its forces are targeting terrorists, not Palestinian civilians, but that those casualties are unavoidable as Hamas uses civilians as shields.
