The Doomsday Clock, which symbolically shows how close the world is to nuclear Armageddon, has been reset.
It’s stopped at 90 seconds to midnight, the closest it’s ever been to “Doomsday,” but scientists have stopped at nudging it further forward.
The clock is re-set annually by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists who point to the threat of a new nuclear arms race, the War in Ukraine and climate change, as concerns. But, they’ve also considered the impact of new man-made risks such as AI.
In its 2024 announcement the Bulletin said, China, Russia and the US were all spending huge sums to expand or modernize their nuclear arsenals adding to the ever-present danger of nuclear war through mistake or miscalculation
