Saying how in the 96-days since the events of October 7, Toronto Police have managed an ”unprecedented” 308 protests and demonstrations that are ”escalating,” the chief adds they’re also becoming more confrontational creating significant public safety concerns for the public and officers.

Demkiw also released the latest reported hate crimes numbers.

From January-September 2023, there were on average 47 such calls each month.

Then from October to December, the average soared to 190 for ever month.

But in December alone, there was a 48% decline in reported hate crimes compared to November.

Antisemitism continues to account for more reported hate crimes than any other category, making up 37% last year, when the total number increased by 42%.
