The former music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has been named principal guest conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra for next season.
67-year old Marin Alsop will succeed Nathalie Stutzmann in the position, agreeing to a three year term starting with a tour of China later this year.
Alsop was the first woman to lead a top-level American orchestra and will conduct the Philadelphia Orchestra two or three weeks per season.
Montreal’s Yannick Nézet-Séguin remains the Philadelphia Orchestra’s music director.
