Sad news from the music world… Laura Lynch, a founding member of the U.S. country group “The Dixie Chicks” was killed in a head-on car crash on a Texas highway near El Paso on Friday.

The band, renamed “The Chicks” in 2020, wrote on social media:

“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Laura Lynch. Laura was a bright light … her infectious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band.”

Lynch was driving her Ford truck on a highway when another car travelling in the opposite direction attempted to pass a vehicle on a two-way undivided portion of the highway.

The 65-year-old Lynch co-founded the group in 1989 and left in 1995.
