The Public Health Agency of Canada has reported another death from a salmonella outbreak involving cantaloupes, which brings the total to seven.

According to the health agency, so far there have been 164 lab-confirmed cases of salmonella in eight provinces linked to Rudy  and Malichita brand cantaloupes.

Hardest hit has been Quebec, with 111 of those cases.

Illnesses have also been reported in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.

Most of the people who became sick are children aged five and younger and adults aged 65 and older.

The Public Health Agency of Canada says 61 people have been hospitalized.

The agency says if people have fresh or frozen cantaloupe at home and they are not sure what brand the fruit is, they should throw it out and wash their hands thoroughly.
