Canada’s prime minister has slammed the Toronto Sun for running a cartoon that incorporates antisemitic tropes.

While in Toronto Thursday, Justin Trudeau also raised concerns about the rising number of antisemitic incidents in Canada since the beginning of the Israel Hamas war.

The cartoon by a U.S. based artist published in Wednesday’s Toronto Sun depicts Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is Jewish, walking alongside U.S. President Joe Biden, with Zelenskyy appearing to pull a wallet out of Biden’s back pocket.

The drawing of Zelenskyy exaggerates his facial features in a manner commonly seen in antisemitic caricature.

Trudeau said the Toronto Sun published the worst kind of antisemitic content, calling it absolutely unacceptable.

A statement from the Ukrainian Canadian Congress says they were absolutely disgusted by the disgraceful cartoon, which they describe as hateful and Kremlin-inspired propaganda, calling on the Toronto Sun to take it down and issue an apology.

The cartoon has been taken off the Toronto Sun website and Editor in Chief Adrienne Batra has apologized saying the cartoon has failed so many and they promise to do better in the future.
