TORONTO POLICE CHIEF UNVEILS NEW KIPPAH FOR JEWISH OFFICERS TO WEAR ON THE JOB

As he provided the Police Services Board and public with a monthly update on reported hate crimes, Chief Myron Demkiw also unveiled a kippah. specially designed for Jewish officers who’d care to wear it on duty.

 

 

The chief says there have been 56 reports of antisemitic hate crimes and 20 anti-Muslim ones since the surprise Hamas attacks of October 7.

Demkiw points out 53% of all reported hate crimes since then have been antisemitic.

Pointing out that it’s a delicate balance, the chief adds while the various communities have demonstrated ”tremendous resiliency” during these ”incredibly challenging times,” as a police service we continue to be resolute, committed to ensuring public safety and security — while also ensuring that the constitutional right to free speech is maintained.

Police officers have been on hand for nearly 250 demonstrations since hostilities broke out more than two months ago.
