He was a veteran gifted sax man who’s material straddled new wave and jazz.
Mars Williams made his name in the 1980s with the Psychedelic Furs, but his roots were in exploratory jazz.
He had surgery to remove a tumor near his pancreas last January, but instead of resting, he went back on the road with the Psychedelic Furs and toured the United States.
Mars Williams has died in hospice care in Chicago.
He was 68.
