Another Omicron subvariant of COVID-19 is now a concern to global health experts.

The World Health Organization is keeping a close eye on the new COVID variant, JN.1.

It’s estimated to account for 21-percent of all new COVID cases in the U.S., according the data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

And in the northeastern United States where there’s been a surge of respiratory illness cases, CDC experts estimate JN.1 is responsible for 32-percent of new cases.

But there is good news, in that experts say there is no evidence it causes more severe disease.

The current COVID-19 vaccine is reportedly effective against this new Omicron subvariant.
