The Star Wars galaxy is about to expand again.
This time, the original 1977 blockbuster film is being translated into the Ojibwe language which is spoken by some 320-thousand Indigenous people across Canada and the United States and is the most spoken Indigenous language in Manitoba, Ontario and Minnesota
Lucasfilm, the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council and the University of Manitoba plan to audition voice actors next year. Once cast, they will then dub the movie’s dialogue in Ojibwe.
The new version of “A New Hope,” will then premiere in Winnipeg, with theatrical screenings to follow across Canada.
