The country’s population shot up over 430,000 during the third-quarter – the fastest pace of growth of any quarter since 1957.

A majority; about 313,000 non-permanent residents who came here from July to September, mostly work and study permit-holders, and to a lesser extent refugee claimants.

As of October 1, there are more than 40.5-million people living in Canada.

Surveys suggest Canadians are concerned about the impact immigration is having on services and infrastructure.

A recent Leger poll found about three-quarters agreed the increase in immigrants is adding pressure to the housing market and health-care system.
