For the first time ever, an American woman director will be president of the Cannes Film Festival.

Greta Gerwig is coming off the success of her blockbuster hit “Barbie” which she says was actually written for Canadian actor Ryan Gosling who played Ken.

At age 40, Gerwig is the youngest woman to helm the jury since Italian movie legend Sofia Loren did it in 1966 when she was 31.

In a statement, Gerwig said she’s overwhelmed, enthusiastic and touched with humility and can’t wait for the festival to get underway in May.
