Former Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne is leading a call for Canada to play a leadership role in investigating sexual violence perpetrated by Hamas terrorists during their October 7th attacks on Israel.

She was joined on Monday by former Conservative deputy leader Lisa Raitt and former NDP MPP Cheri Di Novo, both of whom are regular panelists on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer.

DiNovo says it was only last week that Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly said that using sexual violence as a tactic of war is a crime.

“So why did it take so long is a very good question,” DiNovo explained, “I think honestly, sadly, it’s because it was women who were affected, and that’s a lesson to all of us, that we count. We count, we exist, we have a voice and today we used it.”

DiNovo, Raitt and Wynne are asking for the federal government to commit $1-million to support victims and survivors of the Hamas attacks.

They also ask that the RCMP be sent to Israel to aid in investigations of sexual violence on October 7th.

They say a precedent has been set, noting the Trudeau Liberals previously allocated $1-million to investigate sexual violence committed by Russian soldiers in Ukraine.

Both Cheri DiNovo and Lisa Raitt will have more to say about their initiative when they join guest host Jane Brown on Fight Back Tuesday after the noon news.
