The Netherlands’ counterterrorism agency has raised that country’s threat alert to its second-highest level, saying the possibility of an attack in the country is now “substantial.”
Tuesday’s announcement marks the first time the Dutch threat level has been this high since the end of 2019.
This comes one week after the European Union’s home affairs commissioner warned that the continent could face a “huge risk of terrorist attacks” over the Christmas holiday period due to the fallout from the war between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas terror group.
The Dutch National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security has also cited the Israel-Hamas war as one of the reasons for raising its threat level.
